Let's talk about music, art and books.
When our oldest was tiny, I bought a piano on Craigslist. I grew up with a piano in the house. It's a "must" in my mind. Now our oldest is 5 and takes lessons. I never stuck with my lessons. Wah. Recently I have opened up the Chopin piano book in the evenings and I am fairly certain I am making everyone else under this roof very unhappy. Oh well.
The painting over the piano by the way, I love (and The Brad does not.) I think it's brilliant and it was $10 at the local thrift. (Painted by a Beverly Hills MD, I was told. Wonderfully Odd. )
We have plenty of watercolors. Good ones. Heavy watercolor paper. I don't skimp on this stuff. Great artists deserve no less than very decent supplies. I don't shop retail for their clothes (I thrift, duh!) so I figure I can spend the extra money on art supplies.
This is my dad's office. He is in the business of books. He's hella bright. I love books prolly cause my dad loves books. Yeah. My dad really loves books. A lot. He is in his office right now organzing his books. I swear. He is. Really.
See now, here? This is the kids book collection. We have read most of these many times. Most of the books are thrift store buys. At 3 for a buck, you can't really go wrong. And sometimes they are even vintage. And wow. That is very exciting for me when that happens. I like to impress my dad and say: Hey dad: I found a vintage book for 30 cents. And he says: Hmm! Nice!
I would love to just keep piling more and more apple crates of books up until they reach the ceiling. I really would like to do that. As long as it's not a danger. You know. Danger bad. Books good.
I'm attracted to things that have feeling. See? So....
I found this amazing artisticly designed porch today on design sponge.
Me personally, I would throw an old book case on this porch. A bookcase full of interesting books and also a junky piano. And an easel too. And paints. Then I would lounge and read and paint in the afternoon and have friends over and play music and drink wine on the porch at night. On the weekends only of course. During the week I would just hang out with The Brad and the kids. I don't like being too social. At all. Seriously. You should know this about me. But this porch would make me possibly a little more social. Just a little bit. But probobly not.
Anyway...I really want this porch. Isn't it rad?
