I did something today I didn't wake up planning to do. I gave my mom my old sewing machine and got myself a new one. A dandy, I must say. This one. I got an amazing deal on it, which is the only reason I allowed myself to go for it. Our local sewing store had ordered too many for Christmas. Lucky me!
You know I'm way into making little quilts. But did you know I've been making quilts since the tender age of 18? But: didn't have a rotary cutter until a few weeks ago (They unabashedly laughed at me in the sewing store for this. The knee-slapping kind of laughing where the person laughing can't even get words out....."You..hahahaha weren't...ha ha ha using a rotary cut...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! )
Making a quilt without a rotary cutter is kind of like making an omlette without a frying pan. Very uncontained.
I'd like to be uncontained in a way, cause it's really super "in" and artist like, if you know what I mean. BUT, I would now like to be uncontained in a totally contained way. So. There you go.You knew.
That was my goal.
For 2013.
Still is.
I love that the machine says Ambition right there on the face of it. So when I get really upset over the learning curve, I can remember what is propelling my boat. Am-freaking-bition.
And guess what? I can free-motion quilt on this sucker. Yep. And I hear it's really hard. (I'd love to hear otherwise.)
I'm wouldn't say I'm a totally natural sewer type person (yet.) But I'm hella creative. I got a lotta "juice" as they say. I'm psyched. You know? So, if 80% of life is just showing up, Like Woody Allen says, then I'm showing up. Right here at this machine. Yeah, baby. I'm going to sew my butt off.
The Brad is coming home with a big ol $30 desk from one local thrift and I found way rad $10 shelving at another. So one of these days, I'll guess I'll be showing you my sewing room.
